Medi-Cal Behavioral Health Career Advancement Program

The Medi-Cal Behavioral Health Career Advancement Program (MCB-CAP) is a free training program designed for people interested in growing a career in behavioral health, community health, or supportive services. The program helps participants build practical workforce skills, earn recognized certifications, and prepare for roles that support individuals and families in their communities.
MCB-CAP combines career training with hands-on skill development in areas that are increasingly in demand across California’s healthcare and behavioral health systems. Participants can earn:
- A Community Health Worker Certificate of Completion
- Adult Mental Health First Aid USA Certification
- Northstar Digital Literacy Certification
- Behavioral Health Essential Skills & Practicum Certification
Training is flexible, fully online, and designed to fit around work, school, and/or family responsibilities. Some portions are self-paced, and the program can be completed in a relatively short time-frame.
Students will learn skills such as:
- Supporting people in community and healthcare settings
- Responding to mental health and substance use concerns
- Using workplace technology and digital tools
- Building communication and professional skills
- Preparing for continued education and healthcare careers
MCB-CAP is especially helpful for people in careers such as Community Health Worker, Peer Support Specialist, outreach worker, care coordinator, behavioral health support staff, or other healthcare roles.
The program is offered at no cost to eligible participants through workforce and healthcare partnerships. Participants who complete the program receive industry-recognized certificates and support connecting to additional education and career opportunities.
